Building Our House
Product Description
A New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice! In this unique construction book for kids who love tools and trucks, readers join a girl and her family as they pack up their old house in town and set out to build a new one in the country. Mom and Dad are going to make the new house themselves, from the ground up. From empty lot to finished home, every stage of their year-and-a-half-long building project is here. And at every step their lucky kids are watching and getting their hands dirty, in page after page brimming with machines, vehicles, and all kinds of house-making activities! As he imagines it through the eyes of his older sister, this is Jonathan Bean’s retelling of his own family’s true experience, and includes an afterword with photographs from the author’s collection. Ages 3 - 6.

I’m Excited!

  • I'm excited about TowardtheStars! I even looked to volunteer. I grew up in the 70s, when the closest thing we had to a "princess" was Wonder Woman. I wore jeans, climbed trees, played ball, rode bikes.
  • I'm appalled at the choices offered today to my 6 year old daughter and want to be part of the movement to change the status quo.

Unique Minds!

  • I think TowardTheStars is a great idea so that parents will be able to find products that let their daughters know they are more than objects, they are people with unique minds, unique needs and wide open futures.
  • I want my daughters to know who they are inside is what matters and that they can follow their hearts and interests, instead of being limited to the narrow activities and ideas that society deems "appropriate for girls."

About Us

We believe every child is placed on this earth to accomplish something remarkable, something that only he or she can do. Our tribe was created with one single purpose, to help reduce all threats to girlhood that crush our girls ' true nature and potential. We focus on overturning the gender stereotypes that make girls obsess with body image, keep girls from taking leadership roles, that limit girls' interests in sciences and math and cause them to feel self-aware when playing sports.
